What are the indications that you need a siding replacement?

Our house is an asset that we acquire through working hard. That is why most of us value it and always make sure that it is properly maintained to make it last for long years. But not all parts of the house will be given priority during some home improvement, especially the siding.

Most of us don’t consider siding replacement during house improvement unless it is totally damaged because we focus more on the interior appearance and the roofing only. Siding is not on top of our list but we forgot that it plays an important role in our property’s integrity and value. It shapes up the exterior appeal of our home and not only that, it protects us from elements like unpredictable weather where it gets extremely cold and hot, debris, and pests.

How do you know if your siding needs to be replaced

So, what will happen if we just ignore it and will not repair it? Just like everything in the house, when it shows some signs that it needs some repair we need to take some action to avoid structural damage that can result in major costly repairs.

Here are some of the indications that your siding needs to be replaced:

  • Rot or crumble - The main role of siding is that it protects the people living in that house from the elements outside like the extreme heat or cold etc. And if it begins to rot, it won’t perform its responsibility to keep your family safe and protected. We can change the affected area if it is just minor, but if it already spread the whole siding area, we really need to remove and install a rot-resistant one.

  • Gaps and cracks - Sure this isn’t visible to anyone who will look at your house at first glance, but because of this slight damage as what others think of it, the performance of the siding will be different. It won’t protect you and your family from the elements.

  • Skyrocket energy bills - A damaged siding is one of the reasons why electricity consumption goes high because the temperature inside won’t be retained due to bad insulation.
